You "couldn't put a price or time" on the amount of work that Sr Finbarr Breslin did for the people of Mullingar, Cathaoirleach Bill Collentine said at the monthly meeting of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Speaking at the district's October meeting yesterday afternoon, Cllr Bill Collentine, said that Sr Finbarr, who died on Saturday, is a “huge loss” to the town and she will be “sadly missed by a lot of people”.

Cllr Mick Dollard said that Sr Finbarr was heavily involved in community life for decades. Through her work with the Women’s Community Projects, in particular, she brought a lot of “light” into many homes by encouraging local women to upskill and retrain. Cllr Dollard also noted that she was a founder member of the Temporary Emergency Accommodation Mullingar (TEAM) charity, which provides supports for homeless women and children in the midlands.

“She is a huge loss to the people of Mullingar and the various organisations that she was involved in,” he said.

Director of Services Martin Murray offered condolences to Sr Finbarr’s family and friends on behalf of the council’s executive. He said that she did a “great amount of work for the community” and “made a real difference to many people’s lives”.
