Rotary Club has plans for annual Christmas Tree fundraiser

As Mullingar Rotary Club works towards the next project, it does so in changing times.

President Tom Daly says it is difficult for any fundraising organisation at the moment, and the Club has lost a number of its income generating activities due to the restrictions of recent months.

However, the Rotary Club is intent on adapting to the challenges ahead. Mr Daly says the Christmas Tree sub-committee is planning a contactless way of raising funds this year.

“While there will be a cash donation point, there will also be card payment facilities at the tree, and for those who cannot visit the Remembrance Tree in Mullingar this year, the Rotary Club Mullingar are setting up a site on the iDonate digital fundraising platform.

"This means that one can Google the iDonate platform and search for the Rotary Club Remembrance Tree. All proceeds are distributed among local charities,” he said.

“The Mullingar Enhancement Group and Hospice have purchased an impressive tree for our site this year, which is on Dominick Square in front of Cosgrove’s Pub.

"It will be very much a focal point of the new lighting system that the Mullingar Enhancement Group have planned for this Christmas.

“As usual, we join up with the Hospice, 50/50, for the Christmas Tree in supervising the tree and surrounds.

“The people of Mullingar like the atmosphere created by the tree so we’ll have to ensure it’s an enjoyable experience for all.

“The layout around the tree has been meticulously planned and we’re following all the latest advice available.

“So we’re encouraging everyone to come and visit us at the tree, remember your loved ones, make whatever donation you can, and we wish everyone a very happy Christmas.”
