Weather: Cold with sunny spells in many areas

Cold this morning with sunny spells in many areas. Maximum temperatures 5 to 9 degrees, in moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.

Tonight will be mainly dry, with clear spells, but cold, with frost. Minimum temperatures minus 2 to plus 2 degrees. Light to moderate westerly winds will back southerly, freshening along west and southwest coasts by morning, with increasing cloud.

Wednesday morning will be mainly dry at first, with frost clearing quickly. Met Éireann are predicting rain to extend from the Atlantic across Munster and Connacht during the morning, extending eastwards to all areas during the afternoon.

Clearer conditions, with just isolated showers, will follow into the west and southwest towards evening.

Cold in the midlands, north and east, with maximum temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, but milder in the southwest and along the west coast, with afternoon temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.

South to southeast winds will be mostly light to moderate, but fresh to strong on southern, western and northwestern coasts.
