Classmates raise over €200 with their handmade toys

A lunchtime enterprise in St Kenny NS raised €200 for John McCauley’s charity, Tanzanian Heavenly Homes.

‘Screwmen’ was the bright idea of nine-year-old crafter Thomas Geoghegan, who was joined in his enterprise by his classmate Josh Scahill (10).

“Thomas loves making things with wood and various bits of materials, and one day he showed me this toy he had made, with two screws for the arms, legs and eyes. I told him to show his teacher, who loved the idea and it grew from there,” said his mother, Ann Marie.

“Thomas and Josh are in fourth class in St Kenny NS, and every day they were coming home with more and more orders, it really took off.”

The boys made Santas and reindeer, and succeeded in raising a tidy sum for a good cause.

“The pair of them are delighted with themselves and happy to have raised some money for charity,” said Anne Marie.

John McCauley was so taken with their enterprise that he asked for a specially commissioned piece to take on his next trip to Tanzania for a lucky child out there.
