Temperatures set to drop to -8 tonight

In what could be the coldest night of the year, temperatures are set to drop to -8 degrees tonight across the Midlands.

There is widespread frost and ice to begin with today. Overall it will be dry with bright winter sunshine, but a severe frost will set in quickly after dark.

Tonight is to be extremely cold with widespread frost and ice. Temperatures will plummet to between -2 and -8 degrees Celsius, with fog forming in some areas.

It will be extremely frosty and icy on Saturday morning with freezing fog in parts too. Other areas will stay dry with some sunny spells, in just light westerly breezes. Highest temperatures of only 0 to 4 degrees Celsius.

Sunday is to turn milder. It will be cloudy with some sunny spells, and temperatures climbing to 5 to 7 degrees.
