Mullingar Gardai to appear on Prime Time tonight

Officers from Mullingar Garda Station are set to appear on Prime Time tonight, Thursda.

The local officers will feature in a segment on Operation Fanacht. Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, a garda spokesperson said that officers continue to operate checkpoints across the region in a bid to ensure that the public is adhering to the Covid-19 restrictions. He added that there has been a “large degree of compliance” from the public.

Two Gardai assaulted

Two officers were assaulted in Mullingar Garda Station on Saturday night. A female who was arrested in the town for public order offences assaulted a male and female officer when she was taken to the station. The officers were not seriously hurt in the incident. The female has been charged and is due to appear in court soon.

Millmount Medical Centre burglary

A sum of cash was taken during a burglary at Millmount Medical Centre at the weekend. The break in is believed to have occurred late Friday night/early Saturday morning with the perpetrator gaining entry by smashing a rear window. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of the medical centre is asked to contact Mullingar Station.

Ten drug detections

There were ten drug detections in the Mullingar area over the past week. On Thursday last, February 4, a premises in the town was searched and what is believed to be cannabis with a street value of around €1,000 was recovered. Two males, one in his 20s and another in his 40s, were arrested in connection to the discovery. There were also nine detections for personal possession of illegal drugs.
