Niamh Algar's latest film role will see her starring alongside the iconic English performer Charlotte Rampling.

The two actors have been cast as the lead characters in the upcoming drama Mooring, which will be directed by Jodhi May.

The film tells the story of single mother Megan (played by Algar) and her son Charlie, who live on a barge. Rampling's character, Eve Hertford, leads a reclusive existence and is estranged from her son. She enters Megan and Charlie's lives when their barge becomes beached on her property.

Referring to her new project with Rampling, Algar tweeted last week that she was “honoured to be working with this acting powerhouse”.

Currently earning rave reviews for her performance in the recently released horror film Censor, Algar also stars in Guy Ritchie's upcoming film, Cash Truck, with Jason Statham.

She is also due on our TV screens later this year in the Channel 4 true crime drama, My Name is Lizzie. Filmed late last year in the UK, she will play Lizzie James, an undercover police officer who is asked to start a relationship with Colin Stagg, the chief suspect in the 1992 murder of Rachel Nickell.

The four part drama will feature verbatim dialogue from the actual investigation, which led to Stagg being mistakenly accused of murder. Nickell's killer, Robert Napper, was convicted in 2008 on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

She was also recently one of 15 performers included on the long list for the Supporting Actress award at this year's BAFTAs for her role in the drama Calm with Horses. In total, BAFTA received 234 nominations for consideration. The six nominees will be announced on March 9.
