HSE announces new list of vaccination centres in midlands

The HSE has confirmed the location of five proposed vaccination centres in the midlands, and two have changed from the original provisional list announced last month.

The HSE Midlands has said the vaccination centres in Longford and Offaly will be located in the GAA Centre Newtownforbes and the Tullamore Court Hotel respectively.

In mid February, it announced the centres in Longford and Offaly would be at the Longford Slashers GAA Club and the Faithful Fields in Kilcormac, although it indicated that contracts had yet to be finalised in both these cases.

The HSE, in a statement today said, following a detailed suitability review of the proposed locations announced by the Minister for Health, on February 15, HSE Estates visited locations in Offaly and Longford to undertake a suitability assessment, evaluating each against the following criteria,

Availability duration, Internal Space Layout, Staff Welfare Facilities, Car parking & Access/Egress to site, Accessibility/Transport Links AND Cost

Work will now commence on setting up the centres in Longford and Offay, which will come on stream as needed and once there a dedicated workforce and available vaccine.

The HSE would like to thank those locations who have engaged with this process to date.

There is a total of 5 vaccination centres identified for the Midlands Area with a capacity of between 10 -50 vaccination bays.

The Westmeath Independent understands that work is underway to prepare for the opening of the vaccination centre in the international area in Athlone IT, but that no date has been given for its opening.
