Prince Edward Island stage Rathowen playwright's comedy

Jimmy Keary's 'For Better, For Worse', is being staged by the BIS (Benevolent Irish Society) in the Irish Cultural Centre, Charlottetown, the capital of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island.

It is the sequel to The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley, which the group staged last year, and features five of the same characters who were in the original.

Running from March 18 -20 and March 23 -25, the play opens a few months into the marriage of Gabriel and Chrissie.

Things aren't going quite as planned mostly due to Gabriel's mother, Aggie, who is living with the couple and who is treating Chrissie like a general dogsbody.

Then Gabriel compounds the problems by inviting his recently-widowed Aunt Lucy to stay with them.

"It is my first play on stage in over a year," Jimmy tells the Westmeath Examiner. "The venue has restricted capacity this year due to the virus - cut from 115 down to 50,"

"I have a new three-act comedy written entitled 'Finders Keepers'. And hopefully drama groups will be interested in staging it when things return to some sort of normal."
