WE Sports Awards: Dot Love is our latest Hall of Fame inductee

Racehorse trainer Dot Love is tonight announced as the latest inductee into the Westmeath Examiner Sporting Hall of Fame, the 2020 award for which is sponsored by the Mullingar Park Hotel.

Dot retired from a hugely successful 20-year career as a trainer in January, handing over the licence to her assistant, Ciaran Murphy.

The Denmark native, who is originally comes from an eventing background, enjoyed her greatest moment as a trainer around this time eight years ago, when 50/1 shot Liberty Counsel stunned the Irish racing world by winning the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

Based at Charlestown Stud near Weldon’s Cross, Mullingar, Dot has trained over 70 National Hunt winners over the course of her career, and her Charlestown operation has been the starting point for many star names.

Accepting the award from the Westmeath Examiner last week, Dot said that she is “very honoured to get such recognition”.
