High pressure to dominate our weather this week

There's some good news on the weather front this week as Met Éireann says high pressure will continue its dominance of our weather to the end of this week, bringing a good deal of dry weather.

There is a 'but' however, as the national forecaster adds that it will gradually turn more unsettled over the weekend as an Atlantic frontal systems slowly breaks through the high pressure across the country.

Focusing on today, Tuesday, it will be largely dry with sunny spells, but cloud will tend to bubble up this afternoon, and scattered showers will develop. Feeling a little milder than recent days with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes.

Any lingering showers will die out early on tonight, leaving a dry night with clear spells. However, with light winds or near calm conditions, it will become foggy in places over night with impaired visibility. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees with a touch of frost where skies stay clear.

Mist and fog will clear Wednesday morning and it will be another largely dry morning with sunny spells. It will turn cloudier in the afternoon with a few light showers breaking out, but there will be sunny spells too. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in a light southeasterly breeze.

Remaining dry into Wednesday night with long clear spells. Light southeasterly winds will allow mist and fog to form again, with fog becoming dense in some parts overnight. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees.

Another bright and mainly dry day on Thursday with sunny spells. However, isolated showers will develop in the east and southeast through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in a light to moderate southeast breeze.

Continuing dry on Thursday night with long clear spells. Cloud will increase over the west and southwest as the night progresses. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coolest in the east under the clearest skies, in a light to moderate southeast breeze.

Dry for most on Friday with sunny spells early in the day. However, cloud will build from the west through the day and this will bring patchy light rain or drizzle to western and southwestern coastal areas on Friday evening. Feeling cooler under that cloud cover with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate southeast to south breeze.

Becoming generally cloudy on Friday night with light rain and drizzle pushing further into western and southwestern counties. Elsewhere will remain dry. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in moderate southeasterly winds.

A cloudy day on Saturday with current indications suggesting that rain and drizzle will spread across the western half of the country while much of the east will hold dry. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees, coolest in the west and mildest in the east, in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Current indications suggest that outbreaks of rain and drizzle will affect most areas on Sunday and Monday but accumulations will be low.
