Design teams to be appointed for major extensions at local schools

Design teams are set to be appointed to oversee major extensions at three local secondary schools.

The design teams will plan the extension and refurbishment of both St Joseph's Rochfortbridge, and Castlepollard Community College, as well as an extension to Moate Community School.

In a statement issued to the Westmeath Examiner, the news has been welcomed by Minister of State Robert Troy.

“I am thrilled that three Westmeath schools are receiving much needed investment for the benefit of students, teachers, families and their communities at large. I also welcome confirmation that each of these projects will now have design teams appointed and I have been assured that works will commence shortly after the selection of successful tenders,” Deputy Troy said.

The extensions to each of the three schools will also include a number of SEN bases. Deputy Troy says that when completed the works at each school will provide their communities with top class educational facilities for decades.

“This is very exciting news for each of the school’s involved who have been working extremely hard to improve their facilities. I am pleased to have engaged authorities from each of these school’s over the past number of months, and indeed years in some cases to advance these projects and ensure the needs of their pupils could be met. I have also worked closely with my colleague, Minister Norma Foley in advancing and advocating for these ambitious projects. It is very encouraging that each project bundle is progressing through the various phases without delay and I look forward to the further advancement of these projects in the coming weeks and months. The positive impact of these works for future generations of pupils cannot be overstated.” said Minister Troy.
