Everyone invited to be part of Lions Club Paris2Nice Challenge

Mullingar Lions Club are inviting all cyclists, runners and walkers to embrace the Paris2Nice Challenge.

Starting on Saturday next, May 1, it can be completed by May 29, and when you look back at the end of the first month of summer, you will savour the achievement of having completed an 800km event in Westmeath – or whatever county you live in.

You can take part on an individual, team or on a relay basis where any group of cyclists, runners or walkers can combine efforts over the four weeks.

This is a great incentive for companies, business, offices or organised groups to bond, compete and have good fun and camaraderie. Schools enter as class teams, and if each person or student walks 2km a day, the group will have completed this seemingly daunting journey in less than three weeks.

Already, there is great interest and enthusiasm for this novel event, and groups and individuals are putting their preparations in place, ready for Saturday.

With so many other running or cycling events being cancelled or put on hold, the Paris2Nice Challenge is something to look forward to.

Participants can select from routes already outlined or plan their own itineraries, whatever suits best.

Frank Dillon, event organiser, is pleased with the early feedback, and said wonderful goodwill and generosity is being reflected through sponsorship, patrons and donors and cardholders. All that makes this a really worthwhile venture, that acknowledges the contributions and projects of Mullingar Lions Club in the greater Westmeath community, he pointed out.

“Apart from this affording everyone the opportunity to look after their physical and mental wellbeing,” Frank said, “you are also reaching out to so many groups, families and individuals who have not been so lucky in life, experiencing hardships and carrying heavy burdens as a result of sickness and disability.

“Indeed, at this time many people are facing domestic or household difficulties, with the shadow of Covid-19 lurking in the background.

“With your participation and financial support, we are all coming together sharing and being a voice for many at a vulnerable and low point in their lives, being a unique county team.”
