Great teamwork is cornerstone of 2021 Paris2Nice Challenge

As the weather improves, participants in the Paris2Nice Challenge are out chasing their 800km targets. Among them are Shane O’Brien, senior hurling manager, his team and panel, while Damien Gavan, Peter Tormey and the Westmeath U20 panel have an activity planned for this week. Mullingar Rugby Club have their event organised for June 12.

Robbie Henshaw, who is preparing for the Lions tour to South Africa, has given Paris2Nice Challenge organisers, Mullingar Lions Club, a huge boost.

He said: “I’m delighted to support the Virtual Paris2Nice Challenge. Mullingar Lions Club has done great work over the years and will continue to do so throughout Westmeath.

“I am very aware of the support and back-up they have given to the Community Mental Health team here in Athlone and the many individuals and families they help on an ongoing basis. It is wonderful when people who have fallen on hard times can reach out and find support.

“The Paris2Nice event gives everyone the opportunity to cycle, run and walk, activities that really improve physical and mental wellbeing. It’s great to see people forming teams with colleagues at work, to see the football, hurling and rugby teams entering into the spirit of the event.

“A number of primary and secondary schools are taking part, and they will enjoy camaraderie while raising funds for Mullingar Lions Club to continue their projects.”

Frank Dillon, event organiser, said it is great to see such goodwill from all sports people, all role models in their own right. “Mullingar Lions Club continue to be so heartened by the support of all cardholders, businesses, companies and schools,” he said.
