Niamh Algar has been nominated for an IFTA once again this year.

The Mullingar native, who won two IFTAs last year, has been nominated in the Lead Actress- Drama category for her performance in the critically acclaimed Sky science- fiction TV drama, Raised by Wolves. The other nominees in the category are Aisling Franciosi (Black Narcissus), Catherine Walker (The Deceived), Eve Hewson (Behind Her Eyes) and Dervla Kirwan (Smother).

Currently shooting the second series of Raised by Wolves in South Africa, Algar said that she was thrilled to be nominated once more.

“Thank you so much IFTA, it's such an honour to be recognised back home. Hearing the news whilst working on Raised by Wolves Season 2 makes me grateful to be working in the midst of this pandemic.

“Being alongside the array of talent this year is truly a gift and makes me proud to be where I'm from,” she said.

Last year, Algar became the first actor in the history of the IFTAs to be nominated for four awards and took home two: the Best Actress In a Leading Role- Drama for her performance as Dinah in the Channel 4 series, The Virtues, and the Best Actress In A Supporting Role - Film for her performance in Calm With Horses, for which she was also nominated for a BAFTA.

In addition to the second series of Raised by Wolves, which is executive produced by Ridley Scott, Niamh has a number of other projects coming out later this year, including the Channel 4 true-crime drama My Name is Lizzie, in which she plays the lead character, Lizzie James, an undercover police officer who is asked to start a relationship with Colin Stagg, the chief suspect in the 1992 murder of Rachel Nickell.

A four part drama, it will feature verbatim dialogue from the actual investigation, which led to Stagg being mistakenly accused of murder. Nickell's killer, Robert Napper, was convicted in 2008 on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
