Heatwave to end, but it will stay warm and dry

It will stay dry in most parts today but scattered thunderstorms will develop in parts of the midlands and south this afternoon and evening, bringing some locally heavy downpours and the risk of spot flooding, according to Met Éireann.

The weather service predicts temperature highs of 25 to 28 Celsius generally in light to moderate east to northeast breezes, but slightly cooler near coasts due to the onshore breeze.

Tonight, any lingering showers will die out early to leave a dry night with clear spells.

It will be warm and humid with lows of 15 to 17 Celsius for most but dipping to 13 or 14 Celsius locally.

Isolated mist and fog patches will form in light northeast breezes.

Tomorrow, any mist and fog will clear in the morning to give a dry day with spells of hazy sunshine.

It will be cooler and fresher than of late near the east coast with highs of 19 to 21 Celsius in moderate east to northeast winds.

It will be warm elsewhere with high of 22 to 25 Celsius.

Saturday night will be mostly dry with good clear spells but some cloud around also.

Temperatures will generally not fall below 13 to 16 degrees in light and variable breezes.

On Sunday, there will be sunny spells with some scattered showers developing in the afternoon.

It will stay warm with highest temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees, but feeling a little more refreshing in light to moderate northerly breezes.

It will be largely dry and clear overnight with just a few showers in northwestern coastal areas.

Sunday night will be mild with temperatures generally holding above 14 degrees.

It will be less humid on Monday. There will be a fair amount of cloud around with the best of the sunshine in the south and southeast.

Highest temperatures will typically be 19 to 23 degrees, warmest in the southeast.

There will be light to moderate northeast breezes.

The showers will become isolated on Monday night and clear spells will develop. Overnight lows of 12 to 15 degrees.

Mid-week:

Rather changeable up to midweek with a mix of showers and dry spells. Temperatures back to more average values for mid-summer.
