Cloudy but largely dry today

A good deal of cloud this morning with a little patchy light rain and drizzle, mainly in the east, but overall largely dry. Brighter conditions with some hazy sunny spells will develop through the day, the best of which will be across Connacht and Ulster. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, coolest in the east in light to moderate east to northeast breezes.

TONIGHT

Dry for the most part with a mix of cloud and clear spells and just the odd spot of drizzle, mostly in the east. Temperatures not falling below 7 to 11 degrees generally, with east to northeast winds falling light or calm in places allowing some mist and fog patches to develop.

TOMORROW - WEDNESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER

Mostly cloudy to start on Wednesday with isolated patches of drizzle. Cloud cover will become more variable during the afternoon with some sunny spells breaking through. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees generally, slightly warmer in parts of Ulster, in mostly moderate easterly winds.

NATIONAL OUTLOOK

OVERVIEW: Continuing predominantly dry throughout much of the week with light winds and temperatures around average for the time of year, in the high teens or low 20s, however wet weather looks set to return later in the weekend.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A largely clear and dry night. Some mist or fog patches will develop in light easterly winds. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.

THURSDAY: Thursday will be generally dry again, with just isolated patches of drizzle. There will be variable cloud cover, with some sunny spells at times, the best of which will be in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees, coolest along the east coast in light to occasionally moderate easterly breezes.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Dry with long clear spells, however pockets of fog will develop towards dawn in near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

FRIDAY: A mix of cloud and clear spells with just the chance of some well scattered patches of light rain or drizzle mostly in Munster. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in light southeast or variable breezes.

SATURDAY: Sunny spells and scattered showers developing on Saturday morning, with cloud increasing from the southwest during the afternoon. Current indication are that rain will follow from the southwest through the evening hours, turning heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate to occasionally fresh and blustery southeasterly winds.

SUNDAY: Persistent and occasionally heavy rain will clear northern parts in the morning with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers following from the south to all parts during by afternoon. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds veering southerly and moderating after the rain clears.

FURTHER OUTLOOK: Current indication are that it will remain unsettled early next week with rain and blustery showers at times along with highs in the mid to high teens.
