Three estates to be taken in charge

Residents of two housing estates in Mullingar and one in Rathwire are about to have their areas taken in charge by Westmeath County Council.

The estates are Glenmore Woods and Highfield in Mullingar and Gairdín Beag in Rathwire.

The decision to approve the process was made last week at the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Councillors opted, however, to defer for a month the question of including Rathgowan Woods and Rathgowan Park, after Cllr Ken Glynn said there remained some issues that were causing concern to the Rathgowan Residents Association.

Cllr Glynn stated that he had been asked to send in a submission on behalf of the residents of Rathgowan: “I suggest we take those estates off the table just for today and maybe we revisit it next month,” he said.

Cllr John Shaw supported his call, stating that there are concerns that do need to be addressed.

Council official Pat Keating cautioned that if the developers have complied with their planning permission, they cannot be required to address other issues.
