Repair works completed at Ballany Water Treatment Plant

Irish Water working with Westmeath County Council have successfully completed repair works following an issue at Ballany Water Treatment Plant and the water supply is returning to impacted customers.

Crews worked to complete the repairs and restore supply as quickly and as safely as possible in adherence with current HSE and government COVID-19 advice.

To facilitate the repairs and ensure the protection of public health, a temporary shut-down at the plant was required. Customers in the following areas may have been impacted by low water pressure and/or outages: Ballany, Gillardstown, Streamstown, Castlepollard, Milltown, Scurlockstown, Kilcumny, Coole and surrounding areas. Dedicated water service crews were mobilised and repairs have been underway since the issue occurred yesterday and continued through the night.

Speaking about the works, Paraic Joyce, Irish Water said, “Dedicated crews successfully carried out the repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption and restore the water supply for all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we worked to return the water supply to homes and businesses as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Mr Joyce continued: “Typically it takes several hours after repairs are completed to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing.”

There may be some temporary discolouration of water and occasionally issues such as internal airlocks may arise following an outage.
