Report submitted by Milltownpass

Milltownpass U16 girls ground out a hard fought win this afternoon to beat a determined Milltown team by 4 pts away in Milltown.

MTPass scored first with an Alanna Coogan point and she followed up with a goal shortly after. Caoimhe Burke put a ball over the goalie's head for another goal to leave MTPass ahead by 2-1 to 0-2 points at the first water break.

The second quarter was very evenly matched, and the teams scored 1-2 apiece. Kacey Boyce took a fine goal and there were points from Naomi McNamee and Sandra Riggs.

The half time score was 3-3 to 1-4 in favour of Milltownpass.

Milltown scored early in the third quarter and followed up with a goal to reduce the lead to a point, before a fantastic move involving Naomi McNamee and Alanna Coogan was cooly finished to the net by Erin Cleary.

A few minutes later another sweeping move up the pitch lead to another Erin Cleary goal and the lead was stretched to 5-4 to 2-6 by the second water break.

The last quarter was nail biting stuff as Milltown put on huge pressure to get the win, and scored 3 further points. The girls weathered the storm with some heroic defending and a fine save by Rachel Flood to hold out for a win on a final score of 5-4 to 2-9.

The Milltownpass defence was excelllent throughout, and their goalie made some great saves; midfield worked extremely hard and the forwards worked some super scores.

Congratulations to player of the match Claire Gaffney. Westmeath ladies players, Sarah and Tracy Dillon, presented Claire with a replica of their All Ireland winning Jersey.

The club would like to thank Joe, JA Gorman Consulting Engineers and Gaybrook Kitchens for their sponsorship of the Quarter Zips for the girls on Final day.
