Green Flag for Presentation Senior School

Well done to the children and staff of Presentation Senior School, who were recently awarded the An Taisce Green Flag for their work on the theme Global Citizenship Energy.

This is a huge achievement considering the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions of the last few years.

The school adopted the motto ‘A Green Planet is A Clean Planet’ and worked on the Global Citizenship Energy theme for more than two years, learning about different ways of saving energy, for example, turning off lights when not needed and unplugging chargers.

The pupils also looked at sustainable ways of producing energy, such as wind turbines and solar energy, and studied the benefits and drawbacks of electric cars.

Deputy principal Jacinta Sullivan, who also co-ordinates the Green School Programme, said:

“Our school community work together as a team to promote environmental awareness and conservation, especially awareness of climate change, which is such a challenging and pressing concern at the moment. Our children are the future keepers of the planet, so teaching them to care for and protect the environment is of utmost importance.”
