This summer Mullingar Tidy Towns and Mullingar Chamber of Commerce joined forces to recognise and reward local businesses for the effort they put in with their stunning floral displays.

They approached local nursery garden specialist Pat Leavy of Slanemore Nurseries, who was delighted to help sponsor this event.

“Throughout the summer, our judges viewed many of the town's beautiful premises and the feedback they gave was to say our town looked amazing,” Mullingar Tidy Towns chairman Bill Collentine says.

First prize went to the Greville Arms Hotel. Their prize consisted of a trophy sponsored by Mullingar Tidy Towns and a voucher of €150 for Slanemore Nurseries, which was sponsored by Mullingar Chamber of Commerce.

Canton Casey's public house was in second place and received a voucher worth €100 that was sponsored by Slanmore Nurseries, while third place went to Wallace's public house and they received a voucher for €50 for Slanemore Nurseries, which was sponsored by Mullingar Tidy Towns.

“We would like to thank all the businesses in Mullingar for the fantastic work they are doing in keeping our town looking beautiful and clean,” Mr Collentine says.

The chamber and Mullingar Tidy Towns also joined forces for a second summer competition, which invited residential and community groups to showcase their work.

The theme of this competition, which had a prize of €500 that was sponsored by the chamber, was based around educating, engaging and creativity.

Last Friday it was announced that Mullingar Shamrocks GFC was the winner.

Mullingar Tidy Towns chairman Bill Collentines said: “This award was in recognition for all the hard work the committee of Mullingar Shamrocks have done in the past year, which was led by Joan Crawford Ormsby. Joan and her team have involved other community groups including members of the 1498 club and some of the transition year students of St Mary’s CBS in her work.

“To view much of the work done at Mullingar Shamrocks why not call down and see for yourself the wonderful work that has been done to date or view them on their on-line platforms,” Mr Collentine said.
