Change of plan for wind farm group meeting

The Delvin Raharney Ballivor (DRB) Wind Action Group will host a community meeting tomorrow, Saturday October 23, at 3pm in St Patrick’s Hall.

The meeting will discuss the recently submitted planning application to An Bord Pleanála by Bracklyn Windfarm Limited for the construction of a nine-turbine wind farm, associated roads, cabling and local landscape changes in and around the townlands of Ballagh, Billistown, Ballinacor, Bracklyn, in Westmeath and Coolronan and Ballivor in Meath.

The original plan for the day – which depended on the weather – was to fly a blimp at the proposed turbine height – 185 metres.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Unfortunately we will be unable to launch our blimp, as it needs calm weather conditions, but we hope to float it in coming weeks and will communicate out a few days ahead.”

The DRB Wind Action Group encourage the community to attend the meeting, to share information, opinions and next steps regarding the proposed development.

The DRB Wind Action Group is strongly of the opinion that the national renewable energy strategy is seriously flawed, there is already enough wind energy developed in Ireland and the Delvin Raharney Ballivor Coolronan region is certainly not an appropriate landscape for industrialisation with wind turbines.
