First Mullingar Arts Centre show under new regs is... Sister Act!

The first show in Mullingar Arts Centre under the new controlled environment regulations (which mean all must have immunity status) is Sister Act, presented by Mullingar Student Players.

That allows the arts centre to have full houses at their performances, and that’s something they’ll need for this one, the 18th production by Mullingar Student Players since their first show, Les Misérables, in 2004.

In those years, they have continued to produce musicals of the highest standard and impressed local audiences with their on-stage talent and the creative hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

That creative team for Sister Act are Siofra O’Farrell, Sarah Corrigan and Claire Gilmartin, and Mullingar Arts Centre director Sean Lynch, so the high standard the Student Players work to is guaranteed.

Sister Act features fabulous songs, great costumes and clever sets, and it promises a night of fun and It’s a musical based on the award-winning film starring Whoopi Goldberg, and it tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier.

She’s trying to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia, and she falls in love with a tough – and married – gangster named Curtis.

When Deloris witnesses him commit a murder, she ends up in hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times.

Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.
