'Rain better than 100 guards' - Major drop in anti-social incidents this Halloween

The bad weather on Sunday evening ensured that local gardaí had one of their quietest Halloween nights in years.

Officers from Mullingar Station received a call from Westmeath Fire Service to assist them when they went to put out a bonfire in the Grange area on Sunday evening and there were two arrests for public order breaches, but overall the number of anti-social incidents was down significantly on previous years.

A local garda spokesperson told the Westmeath Examiner that the heavy rain on Sunday evening was a major factor.

“The weather was great. Rain is better than 100 guards. It was the same on Saturday night, rain clears the streets. There were no injuries and no major issues to report.”
