Fire in Newtown Lawns

A house in the Newtown Lawns area was substantially damaged in a fire on Friday afternoon.

The blaze is believed to have started in the front of the house at around 1.30pm. No one was injured in the incident and gardaí say they are not treating the fire as suspicious.

Arrest

A file is being prepared for the DPP after a male was found in possession of a large knife on Saturday night in Mullingar.

At around 9pm, Mullingar Gardaí received a report that two males were involved in an altercation in the Millmount area. When officers arrived at the scene, one of the males was found to be in possession of a large knife on his waist band. The male was subsequently arrested and a file is currently being for the DPP.
