Clonmellon offers huge prize to highlight its warm welcome

A competition aimed at showcasing local businesses in and around Clonmellon has been launched by the local Tidy Towns committee.

The aim is to highlight what the area has to offer, particularly at this time of year, and to encourage people to visit and experience the warm welcome on offer there.

The prize includes family accommodation at Marianne Cottages at Johnsfort House, chauffeur driven transport by Love Irish Tours, which is based in Trim, (the owners live in Clonmellon), a Christmas concert featuring Matthew Gilsenan of the Celtic Tenors and the Virginia Gospel Choir at St John’s Church, and a free pass to the Causey Farm Christmas Experience.

One of the organisers explained that Tidy Towns is about community and this competition aims to highlight what the village of Clonmellon has to offer.

“This small village has a lot to offer and we want to get the word out. We believe that by promoting these events we will be able to attract more people to our area, to experience the warm welcome that is given to all who visit.

“Clonmellon is a place where you can come and enjoy a visit to Killua Castle grounds, visit St John’s Church, walk around the farmers market in the historic market square, and relax over a coffee in the local market cafe shop.”

Killua Castle and St John’s Church are owned by Allen and Lorena Krause, who have restored them. They give the community use of the church for various events, free of charge, and invite the public to enjoy the grounds of the castle.

This competition is about promoting the small businesses in the village as well as those that are providing the prizes.

The spokesperson said: “We believe that by promoting these local attractions we will be able to draw more people to our village to experience the welcome that is given to all who visit!”
