First for Mullingar as Christmas lights on all centre streets

The lights are coming on and there will be loads of people in town.

That’s the message from the Mullingar Enhancement Group, which formed in September 2019 following a meeting of representatives of the streets of Mullingar with the purpose of getting Christmas streets lights for all town streets.

The group lit up most of the town centre last year and for Christmas 2021, phase two will include lights on the Dublin Bridge, Church Avenue and extra lights throughout the town.

Leading the group are John Cochrane, chairman; Nicky Shaw, secretary; and Bill Collentine, treasurer, and the contract for lights was awarded to Rossa Lights. It included lights for nine streets, the Green Bridge, two large Christmas trees and a high powered projector in the Market Square.

All-Ireland Ladies IFC winners to switch lights on

On Friday November 20 of 2020, the lights were turned on by Lucy Thompson and Santa, and this year the lights will be turned on Friday, November 19, at 5.30pm in the Market Square, by members of the Westmeath team who won the 2021 All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football Championship.

The lights project is thanks to funding from Westmeath Leader, Westmeath County Council and local traders and industries.

The Mullingar Enhancement Group also thanked Jill Shaw, Piotr Jarmolinski, Dave Coughlan, Mullen Scaffolding, Willie Collentine, Declan Cleary, Early Learning Centre, Social Media Elite and Mullingar Chamber of Commerce.
