New five screen cinema to open in Mullingar next autumn

The Onmiplex Cinema Group has announced that it will be opening a new cinema in the centre of Mullingar next autumn.

In a statement issued a short while ago, the cinema group revealed that construction work will “shortly commence on new state-of-the-art cinemas” in Mullingar and Ballinasloe. The new cinema in Mullingar will be located at the Harbour Place Shopping Centre overflow car park.

The five-screen cinemas will each include an Omniplex Maxx auditorium complete with 16-metre-wide screens, luxury rocker seats, double sofa-beds, Barco laser projection and Dolby audio technology. Both cinemas are scheduled to open in autumn 2022.

The firm also announced that renovation work on its cinema in Nenagh are scheduled to be completed in time for Christmas 2021.

The firm's total investment in the three projects is over €11m and will create over 100 jobs during construction and 65 full and part time jobs when operational.

Mark Anderson, Director of Omniplex Cinemas, said: “The development of regional cinema in Ireland is a core strategy for Omniplex underlined by recent Omniplex openings in Drogheda, Killarney and Shannon. We look forward to creating new movie memories in Ballinasloe, Nenagh and Mullingar.”

Mr Anderson added: “Covid-19 taught us that it is impossible to replicate the cinema experience at home and films like No Time To Die, Dune, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Eternals proved that cinema is alive and well. The Irish government’s recent decision to mandate the use of digital Covid certificates when attending the cinema will serve to further cinemas' already exemplary safety record in Ireland.”
