'Wintry showers' forecast as weather is set to turn colder

The remainder of this week will be a time for warm layers and rain gear, with Met Éireann forecasting cold and unsettled conditions, with the possibility of some wintry showers.

After a somewhat mild start to this week, it will begin to feel much colder from tomorrow (Wednesday), when sunny spells will be mixed with scattered blustery showers, some heavy, and a risk of hail.

Temperatures tomorrow afternoon will range between 5 and 8 degrees, but it will feel colder in fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds.

Frost will develop on Wednesday night, with temperatures dropping to minus-one in some places.

Thursday will start off dry, but rain will spread from the west during the evening and night. Highest temperatures during the day will be between 4 and 8 degrees, and it will be similar at night.

On Friday, there are indications that wet and very windy conditions could develop during the afternoon, with the rain possibly falling as sleet in places.

It will then remain cold over the weekend, with showers of rain and hail on Saturday, and frost on Saturday night.
