Date set for Charlie Bird's Croagh Patrick climb

IT'S looking like half the country is going to descend on Mayo at the end of March when Charlie Bird climbs the Reek!

The date has been set for Charlie's climb - Saturday, March 26.

There has been a massive outpouring of support for Charlie since he expressed his wish to climb the mountain while speaking about living with Motor Neurone Disease on last Friday night's Late Late Show.

In a tweet, he revealed the date has now been chosen: 'Saturday, 26th of March. The announcement will come next week from Pieta House and The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, the two charities who will benefit from the climb.

'All the relevant people in Mayo have come on board. They are going to give us a big Mayo welcome!'

Offers of support and for people joining the climb on the day have been flooding in.
