VIDEO: Rochfortbridge charity lights display bringing Christmas cheer to young and old

For more than a decade Allan Fitzgerald and his family has been bringing some Christmas cheer to Rochfortbridge with their stunning charity lights display at their home.

The Fitzgeralds have raised thousands of euros for a number of charities close to their hearts, including Epilepsy Ireland and Temple Street Children's Hospital. This year's chosen charity is the Make A Wish Foundation.

Pre-Covid, the official turning on of the lights, which included a visit from Santy on the back of a fire engine, attracted scores of people to the Fitzgeralds' home every year.

Allan says that he is looking forward to returning to those days when he can welcome large crowds without having to worry about social distancing.

It is a bit of effort putting up the lights each year, but Allan says that it is a labour of love for him, his wife Linda, son Calvin and daughters Kelsey and Brianna.

“It's lovely. What we want is kids coming down and seeing the awe factor, getting their picture taken with the polar bear and little figurines around the garden. It makes it special for us when we see a smile on their faces,” he said.

The Fitztgeralds have a box outside their home where people can make donations or you can make a donation on the Make A Wish Foundation website. If you are making a donation online, please mention the Fitzgerald family.
