Council to examine issue of speeding in Killucan

Traffic calming measures are needed at Cloughan Road, Killucan, Cllr John Shaw claimed at the January meeting of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

He was told that the council had no plans for such measures, but that a letter could issue to the gardaí about vehicles speeding there.

Cllr Shaw asked that the letter issue, but that the council also carry out a costing for putting in speed ramps or other traffic calming measures for consideration at the annual roads meeting in six weeks.

Cllr Emily Wallace suggested that digital speed signs and rumble strips should be looked at too, while Cllr Denis Leonard felt it would take very little to leave it safe and proposed that it be considered as part of the overall review of road safety in Killucan.

Cllr Frank McDermott said his daughter uses this road daily, so he is constantly being asked to do something about it. He agreed that there was an issue with speed there.

Paul McCool, district manager, said the council would take on board what the members were saying and would look at the whole village of Killucan.
