Work on new bridge to start in quarter 2 of this year

A request that the new bridge at Saunders Bridge, Mullingar, be completed before the fleadh next summer was made by Cllr Hazel Smyth at the January meeting of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

The meeting was told that work on the footpath and cycleway at Saunders Bridge is due to start in the first quarter of this year and work on the bridge is scheduled to start in the second quarter.

Site to be inspected

An undeveloped site at Central Park, Mullingar, will be inspected may be included for action under the derelict sites regulations, Mullingar mayor, Cllr Aoife Davitt, heard at the January meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District. She asked that the residents association be informed.

Cllr Davitt also proposed that Irish Rail be asked to clean up the railway bridge and surrounds near Mullingar Fire Station. She was seconded by Cllr Emily Wallace. A letter will issue to Irish Rail.

Footpaths

Footpath problems at Ardilaun Green and Hillside Drive, Mullingar, were raised by Cllr Ken Glynn at a recent meeting of the Municipal District. He was assured that a high section of footpath outside 100, Ardilaun and a section of footpath outside 55, Hillside Drive would be repaired this month.

Protected

The register of protected structures in Westmeath is to be reviewed by the newly appointed conservation officer. This was announced in response to a query tabled by Cllr John Shaw at the January meeting of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Road markings

A number of road markings are to be renewed in Mullingar this month, weather permitting, members of the Mullingar/Kinnegad Municipal District were told at the January meeting.

Cllr Andrew Duncan was told the yellow junction box at the car park entrance in Barrack Street would be renewed and Cllr Bill Collentine was told the road markings for the taxi rank in Dominick Street would also be renewed.
