Funding for N52 upgrade

An allocation of €50,000 to upgrade the Delvin to Clonmellon Road has been welcomed by Cllr John Shaw, who raised the issue at the January meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

He had asked if the council had any plans to apply for further funding for that stretch of the N52.

Cllr Shaw was told that funding was sought to commence the planning and design process to improve the poor N52 alignment between Delvin and Clonmellon (Cavestown to Kilrush) in 2021, but it was not provided.

However, the council has been advised that the 2022 allocation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland includes €50,000 towards the project. Now consultants have to be employed and a feasibility study carried out.

Cllr Shaw welcomed the announcement, saying that it was important to north Westmeath.

He asked that landowners be engaged in the process at the earliest opportunity and that the members be kept updated on progress.
