Householders spent €6,000 filling potholes in local road

Two householders have spent in the region of €6,000 on putting filling into the L5027 road at Coralstown, Mullingar, according to Cllr Emily Wallace.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District, she declared that this road is in a “diabolical condition”, having never been surfaced.

Having been told that potholes had been repaired on this road recently, Cllr Wallace declared that doing 250 metres was not good enough.

She said there are six houses on the road and planning permission for two more. Delivery vans will not go down it, she claimed. She urged that it be put forward for funding this year.

Paul McCool, district manager, said that road was in for a Community Improvement Scheme in 2021, but unfortunately, the local people did not come up with the community contribution. He said it could be considered this year.

Cllr Wallace asked that the council investigate and alleviate flooding issues at Carey’s Machinery, Oldtown, Rochfortbridge.

When told that it was investigated previously and it was found that Carey Machinery do not have a surface water system within their site, Cllr Wallace said she would “go back and talk to Careys about it”.

At the same meeting, Cllr Wallace asked that the council replace the “Mullingar” signpost in Milltownpass village.

When told that it would be referred to the transport section for the necessary follow up, she pressed that it be done “sooner rather than later”.
