'It's great to be back to near normal', says hotel manager

The lifting of Covid restrictions saw large numbers of people hit Mullingar's hotels, restaurants and bars at the weekend.

The manager of the the Greville Arms Hotel John Cochrane says that he and his staff were “delighted” with the return to normal business hours. He said the hotel and its neighbour Danny Byrnes pub, which has the same owner, Christy Maye, were both very busy at the weekend.

“It’s great to see all our customers and friends back again. We were very busy at the Greville Arms Hotel and Danny Byrnes, where they had to put the House Full sign last Saturday night.”

While restrictions may have been lifted, Covid 19 is still circulating among the population. In the Greville Arms, a number of measures have been taken to make things as safe as possible for customers.

“We have installed Mia Air Purifiers which are which is designed to prevent the spread of viruses.

“The entire premises have been sanitised with virus protection treatment, as well as having space and air handling facilities to keep the air moving, this has helped to protect both customers and staff.

“We have been using the function room to space people apart during the pandemic and have also provided outdoor facilities in our heated pavilion at the rear of the hotel,”

One of the most popular venues in the midlands, the Greville has a number of upcoming events that they are confident will attract big crowds.

“We have a number of upcoming events, including ‘Remembering Joe’ presented by the Dolan Family on the 11th of February, which promises to be a fantastic evening. Tickets are selling very well.

As well as the Joe Dolan show, we have Dan McCabe Wednesday 16th March, the famous Des Bishop Saturday 26th March and Johnny McEvoy Friday 1st April.

“The Greville Arms has had a lot of enquiries regarding weddings, functions and restaurant bookings and our room bookings are the best they've ever been.

“All in all, it’s great to be back again to near normal,” Mr Cochrane said.
