Long time Westmeath resident and acclaimed author JP Donleavy was the guest on the RTE show 'Writer In Profile' on this day in 1971.

Born in Brooklyn in 1926 to Irish emigrant parents, Donleavy is best known for his 1955 novel 'The Ginger Man'. In 1972 he purchased Levington Park on the outskirts of Mullingar and lived there until his death in 2017 at the age of 91
