Badminton back in full swing in Mullingar

Badminton in Mullingar has returned and is well on the way after some interruptions to indoor sports, due to Covid rules.

While league matches were suspended over the Christmas period, there were some one-day tournaments which some members eagerly entered. A Christmas bonanza in Baldoyle Badminton Centre is always competitive and fun, but numbers were well down due to the pandemic.

There was some amalgamation of grades to provide more games. Mullingar Badminton Club was well represented in the medals with winners in the ladies’ doubles, men’s doubles and mixed for grades 4 to 6 inclusive.

While training commenced in January, league matches were still not allowed until the end of the month. Another tournament was held however, in Navan’s Claremont Centre. This included men’s and ladies’ doubles over one long day’s play. There were winners and runners-up, again from Mullingar in the sections of Grades 5 Men’s and Grade 4 Ladies. Well done to all.

Our league matches have recommenced within the last couple of weeks, and this has meant a busy time again competing in both Midland and South West Leinster Leagues with the Dublin League and Meath Leagues yet to be confirmed.

It is great to see so many members competing at all levels across the Midlands and beyond. We travel to clubs as far afield as Vickerstown in Laois to Baltinglass in Wicklow and also closer to home from Turin to Loughegar.

Mondays and Wednesdays with matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Junior Badminton stays on Friday nights. An adult social night is planned for Saturday February 19.
