WCD recruiting for Rural Social Scheme places

Forty-two Rural Social scheme places are allocated to Westmeath; WCD (Westmeath Community Development) administers the scheme and have 37 places filled. “We are looking to recruit more eligible participants that will carry out 19.5hrs work in the community,” said Tony McCormack of WCD.

“The scheme has a variety of work that suits your interests and skills – placements include GAA pitches, Tidy Towns, graveyards and community groups.”

The Rural Social Scheme (RSS) provides part-time employment in community and voluntary organisations for farmers in receipt of certain social welfare payments and who are underemployed in their primary occupation.

It is a supplementary income support scheme designed for participants whose income falls below a certain level.

Participants can stay on the scheme for six years once continued eligibility is adhered too. The scheme also offers a great social outlet for those who might be farming alone and all protective clothing and safety training are provided.
