St Finian’s College TY students and student council members John Fry (Fagin) and Ailis Brown (Oliver) picked up the sponsorship from Andrea Corroon and Derek Smith of North Midlands Credit Union, who are once again sponsoring the school musical.

What’s the buzz? Tell me what’s happenin’! Jesus Christ Superstar!

What’s the buzz, tell me what’s happening? Coláiste Mhuire CBS and Loreto College Transition Year students are preparing to take to the Mullingar Arts Centre stage with performances of Jesus Christ Superstar, the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

The audiences will be tapping their toes and as they are enchanted by the crowd favorite rock opera between April 6 and 9.

Jesus Christ Superstar has delighted audiences around the world, and now it is these students’ turn to bring the show to Mullingar.

The cast of 60 began work on the show in November and they have given many days and nights to ensure that the audience is treated to the best performances.

Jesus is played by Peter Kennedy, no stranger to the stage, and Kealan Geoghegan makes his stage debut as Judas; he has a bright future ahead in theatre. Micheál Geoghegan impresses as Pilate and Katie Purdue has made the role of Mary Magdalene her own.

Herod is played, in all his glory, by Alex O’Dowd. The Apostles Peter and Simon are played by Luke Raeside and Callum Moody respectively.

Audiences will be blown away by the High Priests, who are led by Leon Doyle as Caiaphas and Conor Moore as Annas.

The majority of the cast have never graced the stage before and many will make their debut on April 6. They promise the dance numbers will raise the roof and you’ll find yourself singing and toe-tapping along!

Robert Brennan from Coláiste Mhuire, said: "It’s great that the arts centre is facilitating the staging of this show, for the students of Coláiste Mhuire and Loreto. It gives us and opportunity as transition year students to put on a production and be on stage, and not all students have that, so really a great opportunity for us students.

"It also means getting to know people you might not otherwise have met, and that’s a huge benefit of the show too.

"People will know the story, it’s telling the life of Jesus in a musical, and putting a modern twist on it.

"Everyone has enjoyed the whole process of doing it and we’re looking forward to the performances now."
