Blackhall layout 'designed to slow traffic', say council

A county councillor is looking to have the entrance and exit at Blackhall car park, across from the electric car charging point, redesigned.

Cllr Emily Wallace claimed the present design fails to give adequate clearance for drivers exiting and turning right from Blackhall upper if there are oncoming vehicles.

The April meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District heard that the layout was designed to encourage slow speed traffic movements given the high volume of pedestrians in the area.

Therefore, there are no plans to redesign it.

Cllr Wallace said she was not looking to have the exit widened to allow speed, but to let cars exit safely.

She asked that the council re-examine the junction.

Milltownpass crossing

Since the redevelopment of Milltownpass GAA club, the need for a pedestrian crossing has become "a real concern", according to Cllr Wallace.

She urged that every option for funding for a pedestrian crossing be explored as it is not eligible for Clar funding.
