Big turnout at Tanzanian Heavenly Homes table quiz

There was a good crowd in the Annebrook House Hotel on Friday night for the annual table quiz in aid of Tanzanian Heavenly Homes, the charity established by well known Mullingar photographer John McCauley.

A total of €3,350 was raised on the night, which will go towards the costs of finishing the accommodation units in the project. Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, John says that he was delighted with the turnout and praised the people of Mullingar for their continued generosity.

"It went very well. There were around 36 or 37 tables. There were four or five drop outs during the week because of Covid and I was a bit worried, but it worked out very well.

"We raised €3,354, which will be used to buy beds and little tables, as well as getting water for the toilets and other things to finish off the houses.

"I said to the people at the quiz that I wanted to show them not what we've done but what they've done through their generosity. They paid for it all. It's very important to me to show people. I am very grateful for all the support down through the years."

John and a team of 15 volunteers are heading back to Tanzania in June with all of the adults going paying their own way. Five students are travelling over as part of the group and they have been fundraising to cover the costs of the trip. Once their costs are covered all of the rest of the money they've raised goes to the charity.
