Death of Billy Growney of Athboy

The death has occurred of Athboy man Billy Growney of Frayne, former player, selector and chairman of the Ó Growney GAA Club.

Aged 72, he died last night at St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown, following a long illness.

Billy worked in the construction industry, and was acting chairman and loyal supporter of the local Fianna Fáil cumann, following the election of Mike Bray to Meath County Council.

Active in many local organisations, he was also a president of Fr Murphy Athletic Club, and was a member of local tug-of-war teams.

Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Ann, he is survived by his wife, Mary, children Tina, Paddy and Liam, son-in-law Brian, daughters-in-law Kara and Deirdre, grandchildren Kate, Chrissy, Bob and Conor, sister Mary, Ross Cross, Tara, and brother Peter, Wicklow, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.

He will be reposing at Mullen's Funeral Home, Athboy from 4pm until 7.30pm this Friday afternoon. Removal on Saturday morning leaving his residence to St James' Church, Athboy, for Funeral Mass at 10am followed by burial in St James' Cemetery. Family flowers only donations if desired to St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown.
