Mullingar tourist office to reopen next month

Mullingar's tourist office is set to reopen next month after more than two years closed.

Fáilte Ireland has indicated to Westmeath County Council that the office in Market House will reopen on June 1. It has been closed since the start of the first Covid 19 lockdown back in the spring of 2020.

Cllr Hazel Smyth recently told the Westmeath Examiner that she “couldn't get her head around” the continued closure of the office.

She said that with the town hosting a number of events this year, particularly the fleadh, it is vital that visitors have somewhere to get information in the centre of Mullingar.

Speaking after the council announced that the office was reopening, Cllr Smyth said that it was "great news" and very timely given the number of events taking place locally in the coming months.

"Just in general for the town, it's really important that the office is open. It's excellent news," she said.

While many people do online research before coming to a place, Cllr Smyth says that you can't beat some in person local knowledge.
