Loughnavalley, a small village with a big heart

Loughnavalley may be one of Westmeath’s smallest villages, but its close knit community has a massive heart.

When the Westmeath Examiner visited Columb Barracks on Wednesday morning last, a delegation led by 10-year-old friends Lilly Young and Cecily Von Maltzan were there to meet some of the Ukrainian community to discuss how the €1,500 the village raised at a number of events around St Patrick’s Day, including a walk and BBQ, would be used. Lilly and Cecily, students in All Saints NS, raised €150 by holding a collection at the local St Patrick’s Day parade. After the visit to the barracks, the Westmeath Examiner learned that a local business had anonymously donated a further €1,300 to the village fundraising efforts.
