€47,500 allocated for safety works at Lakepoint

Residents of the Lakepoint estate in Mullingar have welcomed the news that €47,500 has been allocated for safety works at The Park.

Cllr Aoife Davitt and Minister Robert Troy confirmed the news that Westmeath County Council have made the allocation.

In a letter to residents, Cllr Davitt said: “I am also aware that there is currently an application for Active Travel Funding pending with the Department of Transport for more extensive works in the area.

"I understand that a favourable decision on this application is imminent and I expect to receive confirmation in the coming weeks.”

The detail of the proposed works is:

• construct two table top ramps at junctions along the Park road;

• construct two ramps, one either side of the bend, along the Park road;

• erect two ‘children at play’ signs along the green area at the Park location;

• construct four ramps along the main road through the estate, including signs; and

• reline existing road markings.
