RTE's Ryan Tubridy pays surprise visit to Moate school

Moate Community School had a surprise visitor today (Tuesday), when RTE broadcaster Ryan Tubridy stopped by to meet with students and staff.

School principal Tom Lowry told the Westmeath Independent it was a totally impromptu visit.

It followed on from Moate CS being represented recently as part of a Late Late Show focus on the Junk Kouture fashion competition.

"When we met him in the green room (at the Late Late) he said, 'I'll call to you sometime,' and today he did," said Mr Lowry.

"He was passing through, and I just got a phonecall asking if he could come and see us. I said absolutely.

"So he came in, we showed him around the school, and he met with lots of the students."

During his visit, Mr Tubridy called to several of the classes and spoke to students about his love of History and English.

The school's principal said the RTE star was happy to pose for pictures with students and took a genuine interest in their thoughts and views.

"He is very personable and is always very interested in the student and their experience," said Mr Lowry.
