Multyfarnham Tidy Towns celebrate success in the sun

Multyfarnham Tidy Towns gathered in the sun on the village green last week to celebrate and acknowledge their success at the Cathaoirleach Awards.

Multyfarnham won the county Tidy Towns awards in the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad and received €4,000.

(Castlepollard, in second, got €2,500. The endeavour award for increasing their points in the competition went to Moate and Clonmellon, both of which received €2,000.)

Anne Naughton, chairperson of Multyfarnham Tidy Towns, delighted in the acknowledgment and award, and pointed out that previous efforts were the building blocks of recent success.

Anne paid tribute to Conor Murtagh, Thelma Greene, and Brendan Monaghan, and the volunteers of years past who contributed so much.

She also sang the praises of the Community Employment Scheme stalwarts, especially Martin Melia, and more recently, James Teague.

Anne said that the village residents also go to tremendous efforts to keep up the high standards of the locality.

In particular, she pointed out that property owners, such as Liam and Joan Gilsenan, were exemplary in their wildflower planting on parts of the approach roads to the village.

She remarked that it’s evident that the pupils of St Cremin’s and Wilson’s Hospital School display civic pride and responsibility, ensuring a litter free environment.

Anne expressed gratitude to the Multyfarnham Men’s Shed for their many acts of community awareness that all contribute to the success of Multyfarnham Tidy Towns.
