‘Bigger slice of pie’ needed for cul-de-sac roads

Cul-de-sac roads need “a bigger slice of the pie”, members of Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District said at the May meeting. Cllr Ken Glynn opened the debate when he asked that Keoltown, Ballinea, be prioritised. He accepted that work had been done there, but it needed to be finished. He bemoaned the fact that the council was only able to do one cul-de-sac a year and urged that they seek more funding.

Cllr Denis Leonard said there are through roads with four or five houses on them that are being looked after better than cul-de-sacs with more residents. He told of one cul-de-sac in Coralstown that has 16 houses on it.

The members agreed to seek more funding from the department for cul-de-sacs and to see about providing extra in their budget. Tidy Towns will be delighted, declared Cllr John Shaw when he was told that ivy had been removed from a council property on Main Street, Rathwire. He raised the matter at the May meeting of the municipal district.
